It was an overcast, muggy Saturday on May 6, 2023.

18º North had gone out to sea in choppy waters from the Old Harbour Bay fishing village in St. Catherine, Jamaica to observe an oil and chemical tanker, Sea Cumulus, that had come from Russia docked in front of a nearby port.

Sea Cumulus Oil and Chemical Tanker Pulled Up Alongside Port Esquivel in Jamaica on May 6.

Port Esquivel, as the port is known, is controlled by Russian aluminum giant UC RUSAL, which has alumina and bauxite operations in Jamaica. But UC RUSAL denied to 18º North having any business with Sea Cumulus.
