It is with immense sadness that 18⁰ North announces the passing of its youngest ever freelancer, Isa Ridgard, who lost her life in a drowning incident at Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica on Sunday, December 3, 2023. She was 18. Isa was the eldest of twelve children of one of my closest friends, Jala Ridgard, and her husband, Wade. Isa attended St. Andrew High School for Girls before relocating to Malvern, St. Elizabeth with her family and enrolling at Hampton School. There, she was Vice President of the Journalism Society and editor of her school's magazine.
I am so sorry to hear. I heard about it but she sounds such a bright girl with an awesome journalistic and personal future before her. My condolences to you and to her family!
PS Bathing at Treasure Beach is NOT a good idea. There is an undertow and there are also sudden drops in the seabed. It's very dangerous, so many lives have been lost there.
Thanks for your note, Emma. Should there be no bathing there or should there be life guards assigned?
Isa has finished her leg of the race having done all she was assigned for her short life. RIP my Miss Lovely.
Thank you Zhara for your contribution to Isa's growth and development.
Oh no, Zahra! How terrible!
