Welcome to the New Direction 18° North is a TV news magazine that uncovers stories related to the Caribbean that have gone unreported or been underreported for too long. The brainchild of former Bloomberg TV news reporter, Zahra Burton, 18° North seeks to challenge societal norms of self-censorship and surface reporting and produce truly independent, thought-provoking pieces that have impact.

18° North incites outrage, discomfort, marvel and praise but at its core, it informs. Our hope is that more information can lead to better decisions, and better decisions can lead to greater prosperity for the Caribbean region and its Diaspora in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

18° North takes inspiration from CBS’ 60 Minutes and ABC’s Nightline. It is one half hour long, with three video segments each, exploring topics as varied as politics, science, business, health, sports and culture. The show includes in-depth coverage of regional concerns, like femicide in the Dominican Republic or the threat of the Islamic State recruiting in Trinidad and Tobago. There are to be interviews with newsmakers both locally and abroad and could include U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who has Barbadian roots; Trinidadian-born American rapper Nicki Minaj; and the fastest man in the world, Jamaican Usain Bolt.

Each season has 13 shows. Distribution is on television, radio and digital platforms in the Caribbean and Diaspora.

18° North is a production of Global Reporters for the Caribbean.
